What a precious story of the Lord's grace and mercy and redemption.

Ruth 4:13-22; 1 Chronicles 2:9-55; 1 Chronicles 4:1-23; 1 Samuel 1:1-8 (New King James Version)

Descendants of Boaz and Ruth
Jabez is from the tribe of Judah and is only mentioned in 3 verses in the Bible - Jabez means born in pain.

1 Chr 4:10 - And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep [me] from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

The Family of Elkanah
Elkanah had two wives, Hannah and Peninnah.  Hannah was not able to have children and Peninnah was and of course she threw it in Hannah's face all the time.

Hannah’s Vow
Elkanah tried to make up for it by showing her special favor.  Not the same, nope, nope.

1 Samuel 1:9-4:11 (New King James Version)

Hannah is praying in the temple, silently and crying.  Eli thinks she is drunk.  Anyway, she tells him she is praying.  Eli says that the God of Israel will grant her prayer.

When she heard that, she was no longer sad, hallelujah!

Samuel Is Born and Dedicated
Hannah took him to the temple after he was weaned - I heard from a sermon or something that it would have been around the age of 5.

She gives him to Eli on loan to serve as long as he lives.

Hannah’s Prayer
The Wicked Sons of Eli
Samuel’s Childhood Ministry
Prophecy Against Eli’s Household
God tells Eli that both of his sons, Hophni and Phineas will die in the same day because they are doing wicked things in the doorway of His house.

Samuel’s First Prophecy
The Lord tells Samuel what he is going to do to Eli and his family because he has not restrained his sons for their wickedness.  The next morning he goes in to Eli and he doesn't want to tell him what the Lord has told him, but Eli says if he doesn't, what was prophesied against Eli will come against him.

So Samuel tells Eli what is going to happen to him.  Eli says, kind of - what will happen will happen.  What the heck is that?????????  Why not get your heart right - straighten out and follow the Lord's pathway?

Anyway, Samuel is now the leader because Eli won't be, so he is building credibility through the Word of God, hallelujah.

The Ark of God Captured
The Philistines fought and conquered the Israelites.  Hophni and Phineas died that day.
